Commissioners Delay Transit Vote Past Primary

The Orange County Board of Commissioners again considered transit earlier this evening at its biweekly meeting. After a litany of other agenda items, county planning director Craig Benedict outlined a timeline for placing the transit tax on the ballot. At the remaining work session and regular meeting in March, the commissioners will presented with information on the cost sharing for the regional transit program and agree to some conception of it. In April, the town will hold two public meetings and draft the official transit plan for the country.

Another Transit Tuesday for the County Commissioners

A few years ago, did you imagine you would find yourself wondering whether the Orange County Board of Commissioners supported basic progressive causes like enhanced public transit and smart land use planning?

Commissioners Consider Transit at First Meeting of New Year

Last night marked the first meeting of the Orange County Board of Commissioners this year and hopefully the first post in a push by OrangePolitics to take a deeper look at the board and its biweekly meetings. Since the board had not met in over a month, the agenda was quite crowded, but a few items are worth delving into.

DCHC MPO Public Hearing on Transit Alternatives Analysis

Blogged about here on OP:

The Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (DCHC MPO) will conduct a public hearing on the rail transit Alternatives Analysis at its board meeting on January 11, 2012.   The meeting will be in the Committee Room on the second floor of Durham City Hall (101 City Hall Plaza, Durham, NC) at 9AM.  Citizens can sign in to request time to speak to the board, called the Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC).

Citizens can also email their comments to Comments@dchcmpo.org , or post mail them to Andy Henry, Transportation Dept., 101 City Hall Plaza, Durham, NC 27701.  Comments will be accepted up to the time of the public hearing (January 11, 2012).

The TAC will likely vote on a Locally Preferred Alternative for the Durham-Orange county and the Durham-Wake county rail corridors at their subsequent meeting on February 8, 2012.

For additional information, see the DCHC MPO Web page at the following link, or contact Andy Henry, (919) 560-4366, x-36419, or andrew.henry@durhamnc.gov.

DCHCMPO public workshop on alternative transportation

George C: The Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (DCHC MPO) is currently evaluating transportation Alternatives for the region that list future highway, bus transit, light rail, bicycle, pedestrian and other transportation projects to be implemented through the year 2035. Citizens are encouraged to review the Alternatives and provide feedback.

A Hands: The workshops consist of DCHCMPO planners meeting with the public to answer questions and discuss the plans--i.e. you don't need to be there for the full three hours, and you won't be asked to "do" anything (except that that they'll give you a simple one page feedback form with five questions about investment priorities, funding and policies.)

Date:

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 - 12:00pm to 3:00pm

Location:

Chapel Hill Public Library
