I just received this announcement from David Price. Did anyone else?
I believe that the House of Representatives must move forward with an impeachment inquiry regarding the conduct of President Donald Trump.
This will build upon the investigations of the President’s grave offenses already underway, giving these inquiries focus and the maximum ability to obtain information in the face of the president’s stonewalling and resistance.
Once again it sunk in how much I miss the Chapel Hill News and local newspapers. Today, Thursday, I was doing my shopping at Harris Teater on the senior discount day. Almost always I manage to see someone I know and share a bit of news. Today a friend told me Dave Thaden (assistant principal at Chapel Hill High School and principal East Chapel Hill High School) passed away last month. He was a great person, advocate and educator. Even though I follow Facebook, WCHL and the News and Observer I managed to miss seeing his obit. https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/newsobserver/obituary.aspx?n=david-tha... His memorial service is this Saturday for those who wish to attend.

The last day to register to vote for the primary in May is April 11th. (An official ID is not required until 2016). Last week the Democratic Women had a forum for candidates who are registered Democrats. Tonight the Sierra Club will have a forum for all candidates for County Commissioner. Candidates for Orange County Commissioner will respond to questions
posed by the Orange-Chatham Group. Members of the public are encouraged
to attend and will be asked to submit questions for the moderator to choose from at the end.

I already wish I had never heard the term "freezing fog." What is this fresh, freezing cold, hell?
I'm sitting in my home office looking out on Umstead Drive where the cars have been sitting still for at least the last 10 minutes. Have heard reports of at least two people who got stuck and are walking home miles in the snow.
Apparently, this is the stormaggeddon we've been waiting for. I can't wait until it freezes tonight!
How are y'all doing?
I just received this
article from a neighbor. It focuses on the state once again opting not
to use federal monies for important state activities. My guess is that
in the future the state will do less environmental monitoring and then
use that as an excuse to repeal current regulations making them even
weaker. The last two days I have been attending LUMO (land use
meetings.) An important issue is House Bill 74 which was passed this year. It's
goal was to prevent local governments from passing regulations which
will protect towns more than the state or federal laws. (The Republican
logic was that government regulation prevents job formation. By that
logic Chapel Hill should have one of the highest unemployment rates in
the state but of course we have one of the lowest unemployment rates. )
Fortunately it did NOT repeal current local legislation such as the
rules Chapel Hill has to protect water sheds, prevent erosion and
regulate development near streams. However, any revisions of those rules
under HB74 would require 100% (not majority vote) by the local
government. This means that as the town rewrites and in some cases
Jose knows someone at the HUD office in Raleigh, and today I talked with two people in the national office. They said that we have grounds for filling a report.. Here is the exact wording -
"Housing discrimination based on your race, color, national origin, religion, sex, family status, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability is illegal by federal law. If you have been trying to buy or rent a home or apartment and you believe your rights have been violated, you can file a fair housing complaint."
Both people with whom I spoke interpreted "national origins" to mean that non-U.S. citizens cannot be discriminated against.
I was in Ohio for the holidays. My sister works for a fastfood place. Her boss told her she needs to reschedule all of the full time employees to 28 hours or less so he does not have to comply with any of the new health law requirements. Is this happening in North Carolina and is it legal?

I drove by Town Hall around 8:40pm and it appeared that protesters (Occupy?) were blocking southbound traffic on MLK Jr. Blvd/Airport Road/NC-86 right next to the bridge that leads to the main Chapel Hill municipal building. Last I saw (again, around 8:40pm), a couple of police cars were also in the southbound lanes protecting the protesters from getting run over by traffic. Anyone know what's going on now?
