Hi all, this will be my final blog during the rest of the election season. I have enjoyed attending CHTC meetings during the last 2.5 years. Since moving here I have been vocal on a number of town issues that have not received the attention it deserved . I have voiced an opinion from the cell phone ban which I was in favored of, I wanted a private investigator for the Yates Building incident , which the CHTC shot down, I felt that the signs for the bus ads which were STOP AID TO ISREAL were politically incorrect, and happy that CHTC change it to their current policy on the issue . I sat through the Rogers Road and other community issues as well, Such as Obey Creek, Central West, the Ram Plaza area, and Glen Lennox. I sat through town ordinances evaluation such as the food truck issue. So therefore im not exactly the new kid in town. The Daily Tar Heel has another editorial today criticizing Governor Pat McCrory for his remarks about education in last night's state of the state address.
The DTH is right to criticize McCrory -- his remarks were wrong and show that he's learned nothing from his recent debacle concerning his views on liberal arts education.
However, I'm still waiting for the DTH to directly address their endorsement of McCrory in the fall. They've said in a previous editorial criticizing the governor:
If the plans for higher education McCrory advocated during his campaign are ultimately going to come down to a gutting of the University, then this editorial board regrets having given him its endorsement.
But this isn't a full retraction of their endorsement. It's sidestepping the fact that they endorsed a candidate -- and actively encouraged students to vote for a candidate -- who is directly opposed to what most students at UNC-Chapel Hill stand for with regards to higher education.
Lots of election stats for Orange in the 2012 general election are here, broken down by a gazillion different things. This had been out there through the campaign with daily updates of absentee and early vote stats, now it includes election day as well.

It's time to implement the transit plan.
As Gerry Cohen noted in a recent post, on Tuesday of this week, the county commissioners will take up three resolutions to begin implementing the Orange County transit plan. The transit plan describes how investments will be made in public transit in Orange County and the funding sources for those investments—including a new half-cent sales tax levied by Triangle Transit, a new $7 vehicle registration fee levied by the county, and an additional $3 vehicle registration fee levied by Triangle Transit.
Tonight at the Central Orange Senior Center (103 Meadowlands Drive, Hillsborough), three new members will be sworn in to the Orange County Board of Commissioners. A reception will take place at 6 pm with the business meeting starting at 7. Follow @orangepolitics for live tweets from the meeting.
After taking their new seats, the first item on the agenda (PDF) will be to elect a chair and vice-chair for the next year. New commissioners Renee Price, Penny Rich, and Mark Dorosin were elected in a primary in which voters seemed strongly intent on change (incumbents lost in both districts). They join a group with a strong record of environmentalism, and with good intentions on social justice and economic development. I'm looking forward to seeing what this new board of comissioners can accomplish together.
Tracy Reams at the BoE sent me this today: "Good afternoon. Wanted to let you know that we have completed sorting through the 54,229 ballots cast prior to Election Day and the results are available on our website at http://www.co.orange.nc.us/elect/archive.asp. PDF is report by VTD (Voting Tabulation District) where all votes cast are reported in their home precincts."

Officially canvassed election results were releaesd by the Orange County Board of Elections Friday afternoon.
About 160 of the 400 provisional ballots were counted, along with civilian absentee ballots received thru 11/9 and military and overseas ballots received thru 11/15. A total of 77,050 votes were cast (compared with 75,194 in 2008). Prez wound up 70.22% to 28.06%, Dalton had 64.44, to McCrory's 32.42% with the Libertarian 3.08% (above Howe's statewide average of 2.1%)
The official canvass inched the YES on Transit up from 58.83% to 58.88%.
I also got from the BoE some stats broken down by early vote site (the online canvass has all five sites lumped in together - the totals will be broken out by precinct by early January).
Polls opened 25 minutes ago. Which campaigns are out trying to cajole that last few supporters?
